Who is the training for?

This intensive training is for graduates of the Initial Training in Primal Integration who wish to continue developing their skills as a facilitator of primal-style or deep-feeling work.

Since primal integration facilitation is dynamic in nature, it is best learned through experience. To that end, the Intermediate training includes more supervised session work and one full day group intensive - with real clients - on the final Saturday.

The Intermediate training also includes advanced study. Prior to arrival, trainees will receive a reading list and some materials in preparation for the seminars. All trainees will also be asked to write a 1500-2000 word paper on a pre-approved subject of their choice within the general theme of primal practice. The papers will be due a month in advance of the training. The papers will be reviewed by the leaders, and also circulated to the other trainees. The seminar "Forum on Written Papers" will be an open discussion on the subject matter submitted.

Seminar Descriptions

Forum on Theory and Practice
This seminar is an open discussion on theory as it relates to practice, based on a list of essential topics and the needs and interests of the trainees.

Process Problems
This is an in-depth look at problems in facilitation, and how to deal with clients who are not progressing or becoming less functional. Using case histories, a number of causes and solutions will be addressed, including the effects of early or shock-level trauma.

Transference and Counter-transference
This seminar will look at the practicalities of positive and negative transference, and how to assist the client in resolving projected feelings. The destabilizing effects of extreme transference will be confronted, and how to prevent or work through therapist counter-transference.

Whole Client Care and Coaching
Primal Integration can extend beyond the content of sessions into the entire fabric of the client's life. This seminar looks at the complexities of continued contact, home exercises and activities, and the art of integrating primal insights into practical life choices.

Client Intake and Assessment
The initial exploratory contacts with the client are of vital importance to the outcome of the work. This opportunity to gather pertinent information, make assessments, consider approaches - and to ultimately accept the client - is explored in detail.

Facilitating Prenatal Trauma
Prenatal traumas from conception to birth can have devastating effects on all aspects of life. The theory, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment of prenatal cellular consciousness will be explored in depth.

The Business of Practice
The practical aspects of starting and maintaining a Primal Integration practice will be outlined - facilities and equipment, records and accounts, programming, client scheduling, public relations, advertising, community outreach, and professional networking.

Relationships and Conflict Resolution
In family, group, and couples therapy, primal work is complicated by interpersonal conflicts. Useful approaches for primal conflict resolution will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced.

Sexual Issues and Ethics
This seminar is a continuation of important topics introduced during the Initial training. A balanced approach to sexual issues and ethics is crucial for client progress and the maintenance of a viable practice.

Group Work
Classic primal groups are far more dynamic than any other type of therapy group and require exceptional therapist organization, intuition, and teamwork. The theory and practical aspects of running groups will be outlined in preparation for the full-day intensive group on Saturday.

Forum on Written Papers
Trainee papers on primal practice will be reviewed by the leaders and circulated amongst all trainees. This forum is an opportunity to share feedback and discuss the valuable subject matter covered in the papers.

Supervised Intensive Primal Group
Clients of the center will participate in a group intensive supervised by the leaders and run exclusively by the trainees. From the starting go-round to the final wrap-up, this eight hour marathon is a unique opportunity for trainees to experience the responsibility and reality of primal integration practice - with professional support and critique.
