Four Levels of Involvement

The word "Levels" is just a way to describe variations in process and commitment. They are not necessarily a set of stages to move through, as anyone can choose to start or remain at any level that suits their need and interest. The levels of involvement are somewhat degree oriented, and the commitment of time and attention increases from Cognitive through Universal.

Cognitive
If you have a need to share your thoughts and feelings but are not seeking emotional release, this level of involvement is for you. It allows for the opportunity to speak and be heard in confidence, free of my judgments and opinions. It is your time, and an opportunity to work through issues that confuse or puzzle you. This process is about getting to know yourself, your patterns and their origins and motivations, as well as gaining compassion and insight about the other significant people in your life.

Sometimes "talking through" and being heard can help you navigate through tough times. If your expression does becomes emotional, that's okay. Primal Integration is a process that allows you to be whoever you are.

Expressive
Some people are looking for a safe situation in which they can freely express themselves or get more in touch with their feelings. The non-judgmental atmosphere and safe, sound-proof structure of my practice space is designed to support all types of creative and feeling expression from sound and movement to crying and raging. Living with critical, unaccepting friends, family and superiors can be stifling, exhausting, and depressing. Expressing pent-up feelings in session is healthier than holding the tension in, or dumping it on others. With more access to your feelings and their appropriate expression life can become more vibrant and open to further growth.

Integrative
The integrative level of involvement is an opportunity to seek out the deeper traumas that drive present-day behaviours. It incorporates both the Cognitive and Expressive levels and adds the challenge of working on deep biopsychological connections. It is important to become well-informed in the theories and methods that support the work in order to become more in control of the process. At this level of involvement, you will enter sessions actively seeking old traumatic feelings that lurk within your present-day problems. You will follow these feelings to their unconscious origins, connect them to consciousness, release the charge, and integrate the experience within your present day life and understanding.

Universal
The Cognitive, Expressive, and Integrative levels do not actively require any particular system of belief. Respect for the individual, freedom of expression, and non-judgmental acceptance are all that is needed.

The Universal level of involvement incorporates the other three but takes personal discovery to a degree that could be considered spiritual. By following a rigorous program of attentive meditation, feeling connection and integration, the original split heals and the natural self appears as one unified consciousness, connected in biology and with the universe at large. The Universal level of Primal Integration allows for the deepest form of personal discovery, where that-which-is-beyond-words can be experienced directly. This level of involvement is total - it is a way of being and a way of life.
